The Divine Christos
Insights into the Divine Christos
Not only is there a great deal of interest in the Christ, but there is also a lot of confusion and misrepresentation regarding the term/knowledge of the Christ. First, it’s important to realize that the idea of the Christ is a Western idea. In the East there is no reference to the Christ in the esoteric traditions of India/China/Tibet. The understanding esoterically of the concept of the Christ is very different. Unfortunately, the concept of the Christ in the West was misinterpreted and dragged down to such a degree of misinterpretation because of religious groups throughout history. Part of the reason has to do with the fact that the deeper knowledge of the Divine Christ is esoteric and for that time, it was not meant for the general public. It’s a question mark whether it is today?
So, let’s start fresh from an esoteric perspective. Applying a 5th Ray approach, to isolate and separate, there is a Cosmic Christ, a Planetary Christ, and a personal Christ. Before we can explain the above statement, we first must understand the deeper meaning of the Christ. Though it is translated from the Greek, Christos as ‘anointed one’ this only refers to the personal Christ, which I’ll discuss in the later part of this article.
There are two important ideas to understand regarding this term, ‘Christ’. The more profound esoteric meaning is that expression of the Solar Logos, the One Life and Light, that radiates a portion of itself through all aspects of creation, but then pulls everything in the creation back into itself. Try to picture this, a Great Life force, this One Life and Light, all there is, radiates outward, and then pulls it all back into itself, the originating source. This we see in our world, or theorize, as the force of evolution. Danwin caught a glimpse of it, but only in relationship to form side of life. It also includes the evolution of consciousness. From the Kabballah it says, “a stone becomes plant; a plant, a beast; a man, a spirit, and the spirit a god.” (SD pg.187 vol.1 HPB) All is evolving. This is an expression of the Divine Christ. The personal Christ is different. In the East the Divine Christ is called Daiviprakriti, or the Light of the Logos (Secret Doctrine, HPB Theosophical Publishing 1888, pg.38), It is that expression of that great life, who many like to call God, that lies hidden in the hearts of every living being on this planet. Why does this aspect of the Divine exist? It is needed, and follows occult law. This expression of the Logos we call the Christ is a dynamic principle that acts as a transformer to step down the Logoic energy so that it may be spread safely throughout creation. Thus, the Christ is, “the meditator between the One (Supreme) and the many (in creation).” It is that spiritual energy that bridges the gulf between the 3 aspects of the Godhead (3 in 1 and the 1 in 3) and all the different manifestations, both subtle and coarse. This Divine Christ has its reflection in man. The Soul/Vijnanamaya Kosha on its own plane acts as the mediator, between the Monad and the Christ child born in the manger (heart chakra) of the aspiring disciple. In the esoteric tradition, the Christ child born in the manger is the 1st Initiation, the inner man first awakens and begins the search for the arduous path back to its source. This ‘inner man’, the soul in-incarnation, the Essential nature is not the personality, though at first the energy of this awakening is realized and used by the personality/Samskaras in the effort of the search.
The personal Christ is different (and it is not Jesus). Evolution moves extremely slowly, but in the purpose/plans of the Logos something was needed to speed up the process, so the Logos would receive a return of the creative endeavor to help in its own evolution. Thus, a different octave was created, sometimes called the, ‘side-octave of the Sun’ to speed the process up. Therefore, animal man was given the fire (tejas-manas) of mind, achieved the initiation of individuality (Jivatma), which gave humanity the opportunity to evolve in a special way. A personal Christ, a savior, (to redeem the light from matter), was needed. The personal Christ is that Great Life who holds all humanity within his Chittakasha, the space of his mind, acting as the divine meditator directly for Humanity. Thus, he said, “Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye did it unto one of these My brethren, unto one of these least ye did it unto Me.” (pg. 111 Our Glorius Future, Mabel Collins, Theosophical Book, 1917) (Mathew 25:40)
Thus, this great Individuality manifests from time to time as part of a cosmic drama to help maintain the correct course of evolution on this planet. The drama or events in the life of this great being is necessary to make an imprint in the Soul of Humanity. Consequently, the memory of these events last through thousands of years, continually having an impact on humanity to awaken an inner response and aspiration within humanity at all levels. Even the mundane belief in Jesus, has its place, though very different than a yogi achieving a deep devotion to Krishna. Both are evolving but on different rungs of the great ladder of evolution. The personal Christ, a life beyond our real conception, is also evolving and after a world period moves on, then another will take his place. We are taught that the present World Teacher, Lord Maitreya, the Personal Christ, will be the future Buddha. Maybe this would be a future article regarding what this really means and the misconceptions surrounding this idea.
The Personal Christ steps down the spiritual power of the Logos. Then the Divine energy is stepped down further through Masters of Wisdom, adepts, initiates, and disciples. It reaches humanity in general, through various religion forms, and their houses of worship. All is an invisible ladder of light that reaches out to all humanity to fulfill the purpose of the Logos.
There is this one phrase in the Bible that has caused so much confusion, that is so misunderstood, as it creates confusion, is when Jesus purportedly says, “I am the way, and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.” This a very occult statement (John 14.6). Religion, from the exoteric understanding, sees this, as you all know, that it is only through Jesus that one can know God. How much suffering has been created by this one misinterpretation? When Jesus appears to make this statement, it is actually Lord Maitreya, the World Teacher using Jesus’ body who is aligned to the Planetary Christ and is stating an esoteric fact. Thus, the Trans-Himalayan Brotherhood of Masters align themselves to a particular deity who represents the Planetary Christ. In line with this fact, the writings of the Master DK, in a deeper analysis, acts as a preparatory or initiating phrase, preparing the way for the Great Lord’s coming in the near future in this age.
